Sabre Holdings/Travelocity Takes Sustainable Travel to New Heights
Sabre Holdings/Travelocity, the first major online travel agency to introduce a carbon offset purchase option, is one of the first corporations to pilot the Saatchi S/AngelPoints Personal Sustainability Web Platform. Through its ”Travel for Good” program, Travelocity helps its customers be agents of positive change through sustainable travel and voluntourism. With the launch of the employee-facing PSP web platform, Sabre has taken sustainable travel to new heights by putting its people at the center of efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its global operations, comprised of 9,000 employees in 59 countries.
“Just three weeks into the launch of the Personal Sustainability Web Platform at Sabre, we have already seen some great results,” said Leilani Latimer, Director of Sustainability Initiatives at Sabre Holdings. “So far, we have over 250 employees actively logging Personal Sustainability Practices (PSPs)…and I expect to see usage accelerate as a result of many of our worldwide Eco teams’ local initiatives.” Sabre launched the tool in conjunction with a global challenge called the “Biggest Impact,” which will run through the first quarter of 2010, and is using its internal social network to promote the platform’s adoption by employees. The winning team will be able to make a donation to an environmental cause of its choice, in its region.
One of the challenges of launching the PSP web platform at Sabre was relevance and consistency across a sophisticated, virtual, global employee base. To address this challenge, Saatchi S facilitated a webinar for Sabre’s global Eco teams to raise awareness of how Personal Sustainability generates positive ways for both individuals and the company to contribute to a healthier world. Our approach integrates positive psychology and social networking theory into a simple, easy-to-remember model called the “4Cs.” Individuals experience Control from choosing PSPs that make them happy. They meet these Challenges by setting easily attainable goals and starting with small steps. As victories add up, positive impacts provide a sense of Coherence and meaning to their lives. Finally, Connecting and sharing PSPs with social networks strengthens and reinforces sustainable behavior change, no matter what corner of the world they may call home.
